Zander and the Trees Or Zander’s Not Lost Today

Morning was looking for Zander. The family had been at the farm for about an hour. As soon as they had arrived, Zander grabbed his big pushing ???? and headed for the sandpile under the big oak tree in the back yard.

“I bet he is still pushing his dump truck,” said Dad. “I’ll look out the window and see if he is there.”

Soon Dad returned to the ‘great room’ and said, “You know I don’t see Zander. Did he come back in the house?”

“No” said Mom.

“No” said Kaden.

“No” said Addison. “I have not seen him.”

“Oh, oh” said Mom, “Montana is gone too. I be we left the gate open!”

“Oh, no!” cried Addison. “Zander & Tana are lost!”

But Zander was not lost. He had pushed his big dump truck down Smith Road and turned in the gate at Aunt Cleo’s log cabin. He looked up into the tall cotton wood tree to see if the bug hawk was in his nest. No hawk today. Maybe he is flying around looking for food. Montana sniffed around the porch of the cabin & made a grasshopper jump. Zander saw the grasshopper & chased it with his truck.

Soon they headed across the pasture toward Smith Bridge. Smith Bridge was a small bridge built by Bo, Daddy, Uncle Bert & Cousin Sean over the creek called ‘Doe Creek’. It was fun to push the dump truck across & hear the wheels go bump, bump, bump. In the middle of the bridge, Zander plopped down on his tummy & look down into the water. He could see a few baby minnow fish splashing around & even a little green frog sitting on the side of the creek. Montana went down the bank to get a drink of water. The little frog hopped away.

Zander rolled over on his back & looked up at the curved trees & vines that hung over the bridge. He saw an oak, a pine & some bamboo forest trees. He could see a little sky, but no hawk flying around. He did hear some other birds chirping up in the trees.

Time to follow Bo’s trail to look at all our planted pine tree forest. There were so many trees to push the dump truck thru. There were about 12 ft high but Bo’s trail that he had cut with the big orange tractor made a good path between the rows of trees.
